TOTP - Top Ten Features of iTunes

Think of a product, add the letter 'i' to the start of the name and add a zero to the end of the price tag and you've got Apples marketing strategy. Rich from Doncaster is a big fan iTunes, he has compiled his list of the best things that he likes about the software.:-

  • 10 - iMix
  • 9 - Album art
  • 8 - Search / Browse
  • 7 - Burn to CD and DVD
  • 6 - Basic editing
  • 5 - Firefox plug-in
  • 4 - Smart playlists
  • 3 - Podcasts
  • 2 - iPod compatibility
  • 1 - Music store

We would like to give a big thanks to Timothy Allan who has provided us with most of the music for today's show, visit http://timothyallan.com and check out his entire song archive. Timothy is a great musician who is embracing podcasting and supplies all his songs via an RSS feed as he releases them. If you'd like to support and encourage Tim for providing us with his tunes for the show then just drop him a quick hello using the details on his contact page.

Also mentioned in today's show is a campaign to get Microsoft to keep the Orange RSS / XML logo. They are asking the public what they think of some new icon designs for RSS in Internet Explorer 7 - head over to the Microsoft Developers Blog and show your support in keeping the standard RSS.

Last but not least, remember that it's the first of the month tomorrow so please show your support by voting for Top of the Pods at Podcast Alley.

So sorry everyone, Jon has the flu. I spoke to him earlier on, he can barely whisper, poor bloke. Not ideal when you are podcasting.

Rob,

There's been some discussion of allofmp3.com on the Camel mailing list that I'm on over the last few days, and it seems that it's legally a bit shady. I'm sure that's all been discussed before so I won't go over old ground. However, what I will say is that there seems to be the impression that they're paying royalties for the sales to the bands; they're NOT. It's going into their pockets. According to Susan Hoover of Camel Productions, allofmp3 are selling Camel's music without their permission and they've never received a penny for it.

Possibly worth thinking about before you buy again. The UK MP3 sites may be expensive, but at least the artists are getting their share (even if it's not much).

BTW boys - have you noticed that every time you're 'off air' for an extended period, your listener figures from Feedburner rocket way up ?!

Give it another few days and you'll be in the 1000's....

Here's the latest from libsyn: "We are having a DNS issue that may be out of our hands. We have contacted our registrar who responded that we may be affected by issues with some of their "core servers" that announce the IP address for our domain. We are working to resolve this issue and will keep you guys updated."

It has been up again since the 24th, as I've put a show up and been getting downloads etc.

Hope it comes up soon; I have shows to do !!

Hey guys, I'm a new listener (through itunes), and I'd just like to say, great show, keep it up.

Now a question. No 5 in the itunes list!! I can't find the extension to control itunes through Firefox anywhere and where are the show notes?

You mentioned allofmp3.com on the show. It is a great site. Don't know how long it will be up before they get fined, but until then, nice.

Not a lot of more indy-type music - but then for the price, who cares.
