TOTP - Top Ten Things That Make A Cheesy Summer Hit

Our wonderful SMS text addict sent us in a list that will take us all down a musical memory lane:-

  • 10 - Usually an unknown artist from Europe, often Holland
  • 9 - Bought by millions of teeny boppers
  • 8 - You secretly like the tune
  • 7 - The unique dance
  • 6 - A-list celeb creation
  • 5 - One hit wonders
  • 4 - Catchy and annoying
  • 3 - One of these tunes every summer
  • 2 - Played every 10 minutes
  • 1 - You cringe a year later

Download and listen to the mp3, and don't forget to have a good weekend. Got nothing to do? Then write us a list and email it to topofthepods@gmail.com.

I thought this next list was going to be intelligent, informal, and thoughtful...

Well, I guess when compared to some of the other lists this one could be considered intelligent, informal, and thoughtful.

I got a giggle out of your duhduhduh.com website idea. Have you seen something similar online already --> there's a website where you tap the spacebar in tempo with the song, and the site identifies the song for you? I swear -- check it out. It even worked when I tried "The Song that Never Ends" (children's annoying song).

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the Numa Numa song in this show! 'Specialy cuz of the video.

Your finding a tune idea has pretty much been done boy (sorry).

Firstly there is www.shazam.com where you can point your mobile phone to the music and Shazam will text you back with what it is.

Then there is www.musipedia.org where you can identify a tune in several ways, one of which is whistling at the computer!

How will we know how trendy you are with or without a white ski jacket if we can't see you? Any pictures so I can know who I'm listening to? :) For some reason I picture Rob as Steve Merchant & Jon as....tall & gangly based on Rob's description!

Curses to you both for mentioning the Macarena..even vaguely.

Theory is correct Bazza - if you check out the official Lost podcast they talk about keeping that throughout the series, although it might put the eye closeup shot after the recaps in the intro.

In the interest of shameless self-promotion, I have
a photoblog about life here in Greece
on my website, a combination of tongue-in-cheek frustrated rant and social comment on the trials and tribulations of life here, with photos to boot (some literally!) including one or two of yours truly barbecuing listening to TOTP - please drop by folx!!
